The Peninsula Avenue and Delaware Street Intersection Improvements Project aims to improve safety and access for people traveling through the intersection. This intersection has been identified as a Tier 1 priority intersection for safety improvements as part of the City of San Mateo’s Local Roadway and Safety Plan. Construction is anticipated to start in summer 2026.
This project may include implementation of the following improvements:
- Improved traffic signal visibility hardware
- Addition of left-turn arrows for signals
- High-visibility crosswalks
- New pedestrian ramps
- Curb extensions
- Consideration of sidewalk repair where needed
Ways to Get Involved
Community Survey
We are seeking community feedback about current safety, access, and connectivity challenges and needs at the intersection. This feedback will be used to inform the proposed changes at the Peninsula Street and North Delaware Street intersection and be presented to the community in late January 2026.
Access our short, 5-minute survey here: Peninsula Avenue & Delaware Street Intersection Improvements Survey. The survey period has been extended and will now close on January 9, 2025.
Community Meetings
We invite you to attend one of our in-person or virtual community meetings to hear more about the project, hear results from the community survey, and provide feedback on the project concept design. Staff will provide a brief presentation and be available to discuss the project.
