2024 Safe Routes to School Quick-Build Demonstration Project 31s Avenue by Hillsdale High School
August 6, 2024: The City of San Mateo is partnering with Hillsdale High School on a demonstration project* at the intersections of 31st Avenue and Lansdale Street and 31st Avenue and Fernwood Street that include high-visibility crosswalks and curb extensions at each of these intersections. No parking will be removed. The changes were funded by the San Mateo County Office of Education and are the result of a community walk audit that was held in the spring of 2024. The changes are intended to improve the safety and comfort for students and families traveling to and from Hillsdale High School.
* Demonstration projects are temporary roadway projects that use low-cost materials to evaluate changes to the street before potentially investing in longer-term solutions.
