The City of San Mateo has conducted a study of land use and transportation issues in an area around the Hillsdale and Hayward Park Caltrain Stations. The study resulted in the San Mateo Rail Corridor Transit Oriented Development Plan (Corridor Plan).
In January 2001, a Citizen’s Advisory Committee (CAC) was appointed to advise the City Council on issues regarding potential transit oriented development (TOD) along the Caltrain corridor between the Hillsdale and Hayward Park Cal Train stations. The CAC generally met on a monthly basis from February 2001 through December 2003. The CAC comments were incorporated into a "public review" draft, which was released to the public in February 2004.
The Planning Commission and City Council held a number of public meetings on the Plan, and at the June 6, 2005 City Council Meeting, the City Council:
