Green Icon Green Policies and Practices:
The City of San Mateo continues to be a leader in advancing sustainability and green policies and practices throughout the City. Review highlights of some the City’s green activities, from the adoption of land use policies which promote transit-oriented development to the incorporation of green building standards in new City facilities.
Green Icon Sustainable Initiatives Plan:

Green Icon Our Carbon Footprint:
The Carbon Footprint, also called a Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory, includes a snapshot of sources of carbon dioxide (CO2) for both the community and city operations and facilities. These two footprints include descriptions and analysis of the information displayed in the following charts. City operations and facilities account for about 2% of the overall community's CO2 emissions.

Green Icon Going for Gold:
The new Main Library will surely earn a LEED Silver Certification for its environmentally friendly features but we’ve applied for GOLD Certification! The Library was awarded the San Mateo County Green Building Award for 2007.

Participate in the local Solar Our Schools effort being led by Hillsdale High School and Owens Electric and Solar. Find out how you can put solar on your roof at a competitive price, while supporting the effort to educate students about solar energy and increase the size of the solar array on the high school roof.
