Monthly Downtown Parking Permits

Monthly downtown parking permits are available to business owners, employees, and residents who require all-day parking. A parking permit allows a vehicle to park all-day in a designated city-owned parking garage or lot. By purchasing a permit, the permit holder agrees to follow the San Mateo Parking Permit Rules and Regulations.

Parking is on a first-come, first-serve basis and does not guarantee the permit holder a parking space. Permits are valid Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 6:00PM and may not be used for overnight parking or long-term storage of vehicles.

Note: The City's Parking Guide website will be shut down at the end of October.

Apply for a Downtown Parking Permit

First, create an account. You will receive confirmation of your account in the next window and a temporary password. An email will be sent to confirm your registration. Click on the provided link to login to your dashboard. 

Returning users can select the orange "Log-in/Register" button at the top of this page to sign-in. From there you can manage your account, change your password, change your license plate number, enter credit card information, and purchase another permit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I purchase a permit?

Select the orange "Log-in/Register" button at the top of this page and sign in to your account. Select "Apply for Permit" from the left-hand menu. On the next screen select the garage of your choice, opt to auto-renew or not, and enter your license plate number to register your vehicle. Click continue. Review your order, click continue again, and check-out.

How much does a permit cost?

Where do permit holders park?

Permits are valid at 10-hour parking spaces only. See table above for locations of 10-hour spaces. For a complete list of city-owned parking facilities, visit the City-Owned Parking Facilities page.

Can I opt to renew my monthly permit?

Yes, select auto renew, and opt to autopay on this screen. You will be prompted to enter in credit card information and submit payment.

How do I retrieve my permit?

After submitting payment, click “Home” under the San Mateo Parking logo. Your active permit will be displayed, and you will receive an email containing the hang tag to print and display in your vehicle.

How do I find, pay, or appeal a parking ticket?

If you received a parking citation while parked in the City of San Mateo, go to this website to find, pay, or appeal the parking ticket.

How do I register as a company?

After you create an account, you will be asked to select private individual or company. By selecting company, you can associate a company name with the account.

I am a company administrator. Can I manage multiple permit holders using one account?

No, it is not possible to manage multiple permit holders under one account. You will have to create an individual account for each permit holder.
