The City Council took an important step in our ongoing efforts to guide the future of San Mateo through the General Plan Update. Based on community feedback collected over the last few months, 11 geographical areas where chosen to undergo a comprehensive study of how these parts of the city might change over the next 20 years. Staff and Planners will gather more community input on what kinds of changes the public would like to see – such as transportation improvements, additional housing, streetscape enhancements and more. A range of alternatives will then be studied for each of the 11 areas to evaluate the potential impacts and benefits, before a preferred plan for each area is chosen.
The study areas include downtown, along El Camino Real, near Caltrain stations, the Bridgepointe Shopping Center and other segments of the City.
Another round of community workshops and public meetings will be held in the coming months and everyone is encouraged to participate and learn more by visiting the Strive San Mateo website at www.StriveSanMateo.org.
