Anniversary Celebration
Join us in commemorating our history during our September 3 City Council meeting – exactly 125 years after the first meeting of the San Mateo Board of Trustees. In 1894 an election was held and with just 175 votes – 150 in favor and 25 opposed – San Mateo incorporated into a City. Two days after the election, the first board meeting was held on Sept. 3, 1984 to accept the election results and seat the first trustees.

Today of course we have a City Council and many people have served our community over the last 125 years. Come celebrate our history with current and former members beginning 7 p.m. at the regular City Council meeting where we’ll commemorate San Mateo’s 125th birthday with cupcakes and an apple cider toast.

We’ll be following up with a September Nights on B Street birthday bash on Thursday, Sept. 5 in Downtown. There will be live music, dance lessons and council members will perform a 1894-inspired reenactment of that first meeting.
