Notice of Joint Neighborhood Meeting

The City of San Mateo and the San Mateo-Foster City School District will be holding a joint meeting regarding future projects located near the intersection of Borel Avenue and Shafter Street in San Mateo. The meeting will be held on:

Pending Zoning Administrator Decision
PA 17-012 - 147 N. Fremont Street SPAR - Site Plan and Architectural Review (SPAR) to construct a two-story detached residential unit behind an existing residence to remain (2 units total on site). The proposed unit is 3,930 square feet with an attached 2-car garage and uncovered balconies facing the front and rear. Three additional parking spaces will be provided on-site: A single car carport between the two units and two uncovered parking stalls located adjacent to the front unit. No work to the existing residential dwelling unit is proposed. The project complies with the Duplex Design Guidelines and applicable Zoning Code regulations.

A Planning Commission hearing is scheduled for January 23, 2018 for a Special Use Permit to allow twelve (12) existing art studio spaces in an existing 5,559-square-foot tenant space. The property is zoned R4.



Hampton Inn and Suites Hotel
2940 South Norfolk Street


A Planning Commission study session is scheduled for January 23, 2018 for a new, five-story, 182-room/suite hotel that would replace the existing hotel on the property.


Concar Passage


A pre-application has been submitted to demolish the existing commercial buildings on site and construct 935 multi-family dwelling units and 32,000 square feet of commercial/retail space, including the retention of Trader Joe’s, 7-11, and Rite-Aid. The site is approximately 14.5 acres and currently occupied by the Concar Shopping Center, Shane Jewelers, and 7-11. The project also includes 3.69 acres of public and private park and recreational amenity areas.

The Planning Commission Study Session was held on December 11th.

Bay Meadows Phase II - SPAR #1 Modification

An Informational Neighborhood Meeting was hosted by the master developer Wilson Meany on November 13th. 


4 West Santa Inez / I Engle Road Condominiums

Planning Commission adopted the Written Findings of Denial at their meeting of October 10, 2017. The applicants have submitted an appeal to City Council. The appeal is scheduled for the City Council meeting on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. A public notice postcard will be sent out no later than 10 days before the scheduled meeting.
