Winter Wonderland & Snow in Central Park - Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021Meet us in Central Park for Winter Wonderland on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 4-8 p.m.! We’re welcoming back the ice rink to our beloved downtown park and will have an array of festivities to share.
This free community event includes carnival rides, dance performances, holiday music, LED games, arts and crafts, and even snow! We’ll also have horse and wagon rides (registration is required and can be made starting Nov. 30 for San Mateo residents or Dec. 1 for non-residents.) New App Rewards Customers for Shopping LocalAlong with seven other neighboring cities, we’re participating in the County’s Choose Local San Mateo County program, a points-based app that rewards shoppers for supporting local small businesses. The easy-to-use mobile app enables shoppers to earn rewards automatically at hundreds of participating local businesses. Download the app for free from Google Play or the Apple Store.
COVID-19 Vaccines, Boosters & Holiday Safety TipsThe COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for children 5-11 years old, and anyone 18 years and older who was vaccinated more than 6 months ago is eligible for a booster. Appointments are available at a variety of locations throughout the Bay Area, including at the San Mateo County Event Center, and can be made on the state’s MyTurn system.

There is no waiting period to give blood after receiving an FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine, and new blood donors can now learn their preliminary blood type right away when they come to donate.

Caltrain Holiday TrainDon't miss the Holiday Train coming to visit the Downtown San Mateo Caltrain Station Sunday, December 5 at 6:40 p.m. This cherished tradition offers an opportunity to donate new toys or books to local children whose families are struggling to make ends meet. The Holiday Train, which had taken a brief hiatus in 2020 due to the pandemic, is decorated with more than 75,000 glittering lights. This special train will visit nine Caltrain stations in San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties over the weekend.

Are You Firewise? Free Wildfire Safety Event at City Hall Join the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department to learn about how you can protect yourself, your family and your property from the dangers of wildfire.
Firewise is Saturday, Dec. 11 from 10-11:30 a.m. at San Mateo City Hall, 330 W. 20th Ave. This in-person event is open to residents of San Mateo and Belmont. Space is limited, so make sure to register today.
Just because we live in a city, doesn’t mean wildfire can’t impact us – especially for the residents who live in our hillside! The free event includes experts who will speak on fire behavior, landscaping, construction, fire safety, insurance and preparedness. There will also be a free BBQ lunch and raffles for a chance to win prizes! The event will be held outdoors, but may be moved indoors if it rains.

Sustainability Awards & ReportSustainable San Mateo County has released its 25th Annual Indicators Report on Equitable Housing. The nonprofit’s 2021 report includes ideas for expanding affordable as well as equitable housing, and an analysis of the current shortage in San Mateo County. Nominations are also now open for SSMC’s 2022 awards to recognize a sustainability champion or exceptional green building. One of this year’s 2021 award winners was our very own Deputy Mayor Rick Bonilla!
