The San Mateo Police Department acknowledges and understands that some members of our community may be vulnerable. With those considerations in mind, SMPD created a vulnerable persons registry called Project Guardian.

The San Mateo Police Department is working with businesses and residents from the San Mateo community to compile a confidential list of privately owned security cameras to enhance crime prevention and enhance public safety.

San Mateo has one of the most active Neighborhood Watch programs in the county. The Neighborhood Watch program is a resident participation and involvement in a police community cooperative battle against burglaries or other neighborhood crimes.
