Fallen Heroes Memorial Now Fully Open

Fallen Heroes Memorial converging to form a poppyWe 're excited to share that the Fallen Heroes Memorial in Central Park is now fully open to the public. We encourage you to visit this dynamic and moving memorial, which serves as a tribute to San Mateo residents who lost their lives in the line of duty while serving as servicemembers, police and firefighters.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the Fallen Heroes Memorial in Central Park on May 23, 2024, at 11 a.m. During this momentous occasion, we unveiled this beautiful, new monument.

Fallen Heroes Memorial Groundbreaking

San Mateo celebrated the Fallen Heroes Memorial Groundbreaking on December 19, 2023. Thank you to our donors and all who contributed to this effort. We couldn't have done this without you. The Fallen Heroes Memorial was unveiled in Spring 2024.

The City of San Mateo graciously thanks our donors and sponsors for their generous contributions. 

The Fallen Heroes Memorial includes a number of monoliths etched with the names of community members and City employees who lost their lives in the line of duty. When aligned, the monoliths form the shape of the iconic Remembrance Poppy (as shown below). Visit our About the Memorial page to learn more about the memorial design.
