Accessory Dwelling Unit Ordinance Update

Project Description

The City’s Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Ordinance is in the process of being amended to align with State law and updated the development standards for ADUs and Junior ADUs (JADUs).  Current information on ADU and JADU development standards and a permit submittal guide can be found on the City’s ADU and JADU Resource Page.

Project Update

The next public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 7pm before the City Council, with a public hearing to introduce the updated draft ADU Ordinance. The draft ordinance that will be presented has been informed by feedback collected during community outreach efforts, the requirements of the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD); peer review of development standards adopted by other jurisdictions in the county; staff recommendations based on experience processing ADU permits; and the recommendations and input received from both the Planning Commission and City Council previously.
