The City of San Mateo adopted a Climate Action Plan (CAP) in April 2015 that contained strategies to reduce emissions 15% below 2005 levels by 2020. Since the adoption of the CAP, a number of recommended strategies in the plan have been completed. Additionally, the State adopted Senate Bill 32, which established a revised statewide GHG emission reduction target of 40% below 1990 levels by 2030.
The City is in the process of updating the current CAP in order to identify greenhouse gas emission reduction targets through 2030, build on the City's recent CAP implementation successes, and integrate with the General Plan update. Information will be posted here as available.
The project team is scheduled to present Draft 2020 Climate Action Plan at the January 6, 2020 City Council Study Session. The agenda will be published on the City's Prime Gov Portal.
