Rand Street Reconstruction Project

Public Works is reconstructing Rand Street from Shoreview Avenue to Dakota Avenue, a Measure S project.

The City of San Mateo is coordinating with the California Water Service Company (Cal Water) for repair of its water main on Rand Street.

Cal Water will return to the community Aug. 6 to complete service lateral connections and tie-ins to the repaired water main. Its component of the repair work is expected to be completed Aug. 14. City pavement reconstruction contractors are expected to resume the interrupted road work project thereafter, we anticipate that date to be the week of Aug. 19.

Granite Construction, the contractor executing the road reconstruction project, will then resume its work for approximately five to six weeks.

Scope of Work:

This project consists of reconstruction of the pavement section, overlay of five inches of new asphalt concrete pavement, the repair of concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveway approaches to maintain stormwater surface runoff along the street.

"Street Reconstruction" generally includes the removal of all existing asphalt surfacing, excavation of the road subgrade materials, and utility relocation work as necessary. The road is re-built from the bottom up, with new aggregate base and new asphalt concrete pavement.

Light Outage:

Starting June 5, 2019, Rand Street from Shoreview Avenue to Newbridge Avenue will experience street light outage during infrastructure improvements. Street light outage is anticipated to continue through this project delay.
