Tween Programs and Volunteer Information
San Mateo Public Library offers a variety of Tween programming every month for 5th-8th graders. Each quarter, we offer an extra special program at the library for our tween patrons: After-Hours Tween Night! This event takes place when the library is closed to the public and is filled with games, crafts, and pizza.
Find out what we are offering this month and register to attend by visiting our events calendar.
Tween Advisory Party (T.A.P.)
Drop-in for one of our Tween Advisory Parties! This program encourages tweens to help the library exciting programs for all ages while getting to know other tweens in the community. We often watch movies, make crafts, and play strategy games. There is something for everyone at T.A.P.!
We meet bi-monthly on the first Tuesday of the month in the Children's Area (Book Bubble or Maker Space) from 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM.
Want to earn service hours at the library? All Tween Volunteers are required to fill out an application with parental consent and attend an orientation before they can earn service hours. All volunteers are also required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination (physical or electronic) to volunteer in the library.
Tween Volunteers meet bi-monthly on the first Tuesday of the month in the Children's Area (Book Bubble or Maker Space) from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM to complete tasks that help the library run smoothly.
Tween Volunteers are always able to earn at least 1 hour every other month. Special volunteer assignments outside of our regularly scheduled meetings are only offered on an as-needed basis.
The first orientation of the new year will be held in February 2022. Check out the events calendar for registration information in February.
Who is a tween?
All 5th through 8th grade students are welcome to join us for tween programming, volunteer opportunities, and After Hours Tween Nights. 4th graders become 5th graders when they finish their 4th grade school year. This means 4th grade students are able to join us when they finish the school year in June!
Can my 4th grader attend tween programs? They are really mature for their age! They read tween and teen books!
We love how excited you and your child are about attending library programs! Unfortunately, we limit our tween programs to 5th through 8th graders only. Don't worry, SMPL has many fun programs for all age groups!
I want to volunteer, but I'm in high school. Is there a Teen Volunteer Program?
