Welcome to the City of San Mateo Online Crime Reporting System where you can report certain types of crimes electronically and print out a copy for free.  ALSO SEE: Share a Crime Tip Online.

Before submitting a crime online, you must confirm the following:



  • This is not an emergency.
  • There is no information about who committed the crime and there is no video evidence.
  • San Mateo’s jurisdiction for crime reporting does not include freeways, trains, or buses.

What crimes can I report online?

Our Online Crime Reporting System allows you to report the following crimes, as well as Supplement to Burglary Reports*:

  • Harassing Phone Call(s)
  • Hit and Run
  • Identity Theft & Fraud
  • Lost Property
  • Theft
  • Theft from an unlocked Vehicle
  • Vandalism
  • Vandalism of a Vehicle
*Supplement to Burglary Reports = Adding additional property information to a burglary report that has already been reported to the police.  EXAMPLE: A police officer came to your home/business and took a burglary report and you have since found more property missing and you need to add the additional pieces of property to your original report.
