Youth Activities Council (YAC)

If you are a high school student looking to gain leadership skills, give back to your community and be an active member of a teen board, then look no further! The Youth Activities Council represents the youth voice of San Mateo’s teens!

The Youth Activities Council’s primary mission is to provide experiences and opportunities for the youth and teen population of San Mateo by:

  • Providing safe and enjoyable activities
  • Creating community through special events
  • Teaching and enhancing leadership skills through service learning experiences
  • Learning to see the world around us and understanding our role in decision-making
  • Connecting with other youth commissions/councils to expand our network of knowledge
  • Communicating with professionals and city leaders to further our understanding of government and civil participation
  • Empowering youth to have a voice in the community, to get involved, and make a difference!

How to Apply – 

Please Note: All applications can be completed and submitted online!

YAC applications:

San Mateo YAC members must be a resident of San Mateo and/or attend high school in San Mateo. Applications are due no later than Friday, August 28, 2020. Please email all complete YAC applications to Brandon Parra at bparra@cityofsanmateo.org.

Youth Activities Council In Training (YACit)

If you are a middle school student looking to gain experience in leadership & giving back to your community, then join our YAC(it) team! The Youth Activities Council (in training) provides middles school students an introductory experience to work with our High School YAC members who represent the youth’s voice of San Mateo teens!

The Youth Activities Council’s primary mission is to provide experiences and opportunities for the youth and teen population of San Mateo by:

  • Providing safe and enjoyable activities
  • Creating community through special events
  • Empowering youth to have a voice in the community.
