Overview
San Mateo Fire Department has six fire stations strategically located throughout the City to provide rapid response to fires, medical emergencies, rescues and other emergency calls for service.
We participate in a Joint Powers Agreement providing automatic aid response throughout the San Mateo County's Fire Service delivery system.
Fire Engine
Each Fire Station has one fire engine staffed by one Fire Captain and two Firefighter/ Engineers. One member of the Engine Company is a Paramedic Most of our firefighters have special skills including, but not limited to, rescue systems, confined space swift watter and hazardous materials.
Fire Aerial Ladder Truck
San Mateo Fire staffs one, 100' aerial ladder truck, out of Station 21. The truck responds to all major incidents in the City. It carries special equipment including "the jaws of life," ladders, heavy rescue equipment, jacks, saws, pumps and many other special tools
The truck is staffed by one Fire Captain and three Firefighters. One member of the Truck Company is a Paramedic.
Certifications
All San Mateo Firefighters are State-certified Firefighter II and Emergency Medical Technicians. One member on each Engine Company is a State-licensed paramedic, permitting the department to provide advanced life support services
