SMUHA Press Release

HOA Membership Month
Contact San Mateo United Homeowners Association to find out how
you can get involved with your neighborhood Homeowners Association.

March is Membership Month for Homeowners and Neighborhood Associations in San Mateo

Mayor John Lee and the San Mateo City council have proclaimed the month of March as Membership Month for homeowner and neighborhood associations in the city.  “The City Council is committed to working with our residents to maintain San Mateo as a great place to live.  Partnering with our residents to enhance communication and community involvement are key elements of this effort,” Said Mayor Lee.

SMUHA’s Vision Statement includes creating a forum for the free exchange of ideas among residents for the betterment of San Mateo and to enhance the quality of life, aesthetic beauty of the community, and safety for all.  From these ideas has come an increasing series of successes.  SMUHA took the lead in assisting City staff in revising the noticing process so that neighborhoods are more promptly and thoroughly notified of proposed development. SMUHA is also at the forefront of the Volunteer Traffic Corps, a volunteer group assisting San Mateo Police with placing a police car in neighborhoods where speeding problems exist, as well as spotting stop sign, speeding, and truck route violations. SMUHA has also issued letters of support to City staff on behalf of neighborhoods bringing key issues affecting quality of life to the group.

SMUHA President Anna Kuhre of Baywood says, “Many citizens don’t even know that Homeowners Associations exist and can help represent you with any concerns that you may have. Your Homeowners’ Association is the best place to start when you have concerns in your neighborhood. Homeowners and renters alike are welcome. While there are many dedicated representatives from homeowners’ associations throughout our city that keep informed on issues from Public Works, Planning, and our Police Department and bring them to United for further discussion and action, we need more!”
