Teens
The Parks and Recreation Teen program is an opportunity for your teen to explore their personal interests through adventure, personal development and leadership. Skills gained through these experiences can lead to emotional, physical, and mental growth, and provides knowledge that transfers to their life experiences.
The highlighted opportunities below help to give you an idea of the type of life skills your child can gain.
Youth Activities Council (YAC)
Our Youth Activities Council is comprised of local high school students and represents the voices of San Mateo youth in their age groups. Students in YAC learn how to navigate government, work cooperatively together, and how to take on the role of community leader.
Club 2720
Club 2720: Teen Event Epicenter, held at Beresford Recreation Center, is a safe place for youth to socialize, exhibit independence and have fun.
Personal Development
Youth build life skills and form positive habits such as nutrition, fitness, good personal finances and solid job skills – all skills needed for a healthy mind and body. Please see our quarterly activity guide to view all of the personal development teen classes.
Adventure
By providing youth a variety of interesting and adventurous experiences, they may develop a life-long interest and active life style they might normally not have been exposed to. They also learn to take on new challenges that will help them build self esteem. Please see our quarterly activity guide to view all of the personal development teen classes.
Leadership
Our leadership programs help build confidence and stress learning opportunities that emphasize team building and community service. Please see our quarterly activity guide to view all of the personal development teen classes.
