What is the Building Block philosophy?
The Building Blocks Preschool Programs are dedicated to providing a safe environment for your child to grow emotionally, physically, socially, and intellectually, by following Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP), which are defined as being both age-appropriate and individually-appropriate for each child. Building Blocks is also designed around the theory that children learn through play. Our teachers view themselves as facilitators, providing your child with support so they are able to explore surroundings and make discoveries on their own. We do not believe in imposing academic pressures and we know that your child will develop at his own pace, so we create a creative, positive environment for children to learn to love school.

What type of skills development is included in the Building Block program?
The curriculum of the Building Blocks Programs focuses on five main milestones of development that occur at the preschool level:

  • Social
  • Emotional
  • Cognitive
  • Sensory/motor
  • Self-regulation/life skills

We provide opportunities for your child to participate in activities based on planned themes and the observation of your child’s skills and interests. Our program is implemented through play, art, music, multicultural experiences, movement, mathematics, science experiments and more!

My child is young/old for his age, is there flexibility in the age requirements?
We firmly adhere to our age eligibility, which is based on your child’s age at the first day of class. The age requirements allow your child to develop social skills and friendships with peers who may be in their future classes.

Can my child be registered in more than one “block” level?
Children may not be concurrently enrolled in different block levels.

What is the registration process?
A $50 deposit is required to reserve a space for your child in any of the Building Block classes. Completion of the registration forms are required prior to your child attending the first day of class. Additional information about enrollment can be found in our Enrollment, available mid-July.

Can I get assistance with preschool fees?

Can I volunteer in my child’s classroom?
With the exception of Friends and Me, we welcome parent volunteers – they are an important part of our program’s success. We ask our parents to volunteer 1 – 2 times a month. Volunteers help teachers prepare and supervise art projects, play games and prepare snacks. Parents are not the only volunteers we love – grandparents, aunts, uncles and close family friends are all welcome. Your child will have a sense of pride and self worth knowing his loved ones took the time to support him!
