Park Maintenance

If you look at Parks & Recreation by the numbers, it adds up:

  • 32 fully developed parks consisting of 122 acres of park land
  • 13 miles of landscaped street medians
  • More than 275 ovals, islands and civic building landscaping
  • 5 community centers with 2 swimming pools, 6 tennis courts, 8 basketball courts and 11 ball fields
  • 26 restrooms
  • Natural areas for walking, biking and hiking
  • Special use facilities such as the water spray park and dog parks
  • Beautifully landscaped open grassy play areas

Park maintenance is a big job. We provide weed abatement, athletic field repair, safety inspections of playgrounds as well as:

  • picking up more than 250 tons of garbage every year
  • turf and lawn care including ball fields for 19 schools
  • irrigation system repair and maintenance
  • landscape management
  • facility inspections
  • flower bed care

Community parks like Central, Beresford, Shoreview and King are cleaned and maintained daily. Neighborhood parks like Indian Springs and Laurie Meadows are cleaned at least twice a week. All park restrooms are cleaned and opened daily, and are closed and locked at dusk. Parks are mowed, trimmed and irrigated weekly. Please contact the Parks and Landscape Division at (650) 522-7420 if you have any questions about park use.

Parks & Recreation maintenance crews make sure that not only every park is clean, but they ensure that street medians and facilities are kept clean, safe, usable and beautiful as well. From facilities like Central Park's Japanese Tea Garden that requires daily maintenance to smaller parks that require less frequent services, the maintenance crews are there as environmental stewards.
