30th Avenue Street Reconstruction Project
Short Description of Project:
The Department of Public Works is implementing a street reconstruction project at 30th Avenue from Alameda de las Pulgas to Flores Street.
This project consists of “street reconstruction” of pavement section up to 24 inches in depth from lip of gutter to lip of gutter; overlay 4.5 inches of asphalt concrete pavement; install wheelchair ramps where applicable; repair concrete curb & gutter, driveway approach and sidewalk as necessary to maintain stormwater surface runoff within the project limits.
“Street Reconstruction” - Generally includes the removal of all existing asphalt surfacing, excavation of the road subgrade materials, and replacement of storm and sewer as necessary. The road is re-built from the bottom-up, with new aggregate base and new asphalt concrete pavement.
Redgwick Construction Company (Contractor) is contracted with the City of San Mateo, Public Works Department for the 30th Avenue Street Reconstruction Project.
The Contractor has substantially completed the concrete improvements that may have included a combination of curb & gutter, sidewalk, wheel chair access ramps, and some driveway approaches.
Upcoming Work (update as of December 22, 2016):
There will be no construction activities until after the new year. Major street reconstruction work will begin on January 3, 2017. Street reconstruction work involves removal of existing asphalt concrete (AC) pavement followed by a cement treated road base stabilization process and AC pavement overlay. The project will then continue through January 2017 (weather permitting).
Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Traffic Advisories - Impacted Streets: Delay up to 30 minutes
30th Avenue from Flores Street to Alameda de las Pulgas
(Road closure as follow: estimate one street segment at a time; side streets will be impacted in close proximity to the intersections)
- 30th Avenue & Alameda de las Pulgas
- 30th Avenue & Isabelle Avenue
- 30th Avenue & Juniper Street
- 30th Avenue & Hacienda Street
- 30th Avenue & Flores Street
Street pavement reconstruction will be performed in three sections: Flores to Hacienda, Hacienda to Isabelle, and Isabelle to Alameda de las Pulgas. Each section will be milled open to the depth of up to 14 inches for up to five (5) consecutive days. Road closure and traffic control will be implemented during work hours to assist traffic detour around the neighborhood. Private driveways within the section under reconstruction work will not be accessible during work hours. The street segment under construction will be re-opened at the end of each working day. There will be uneven pavement at the driveway approaches. The Contractor will provide a temporary ramp with a 4:1 slope at the street and driveway approaches for vehicle access during non-working hours. Active vehicles must exit private driveways before 7:30 a.m. within the street segment under construction. Vehicles must be parked on adjacent streets or on other street segments where reconstruction work is not occurring during that period. Construction notices (door hanger) will be provided at least three (3) days before street pavement reconstruction work.
The Contractor will set up detours on 30th Avenue, Flores Street, Hacienda Street, Juniper Street, Isabelle Avenue, and Alameda de las Pulgas. Detour & traffic signs will be posted to assist traffic access around the work area. Please expect delays up to 30 minutes when accessing this neighborhood.
Please note that trash and recycling collection will be delayed. The Contractor will assist garbage pick-ups. To ensure collection, please place the garbage and recycling containers at the edge of the road or in the driveway the evening prior.
During the time it takes the contractor to reconstruct the streets, the City and the Contractor request your cooperation in observing the following:
- Maintain 5 mph speed limits when accessing the neighborhood.
- Follow traffic signage posted in the neighborhood.
- Park your vehicles away from the construction zone.
- Allow extra travel time for access. Persons with disabilities that require accommodation should contact Jai Raj, Field Engineer, at (650) 522-7375.
The City understands that the utility relocation work and the street reconstruction project have caused inconveniences for the residents. The City appreciates your patience and thanks you for your cooperation.
