Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
The City of San Mateo strives to divert as much trash from the landfill as possible. Thanks to the efforts and support from San Mateo residents and businesses we have experienced higher than average diversion rates.
Residential customers produce an average of 4.2 pounds of waste per day, which is 28% less than the national average of 5.8 pounds while office employees produce an average of 9.2 pounds, or approximately 31% less trash than the national average of 13.3 pounds.
The City of San Mateo works closely with Recology San Mateo County
to reduce waste throughout the community. This past year, Recology
