City of San Mateo Holds Press Briefing And Advances Release of Community Development Department Management Audit

MEMBERS OF PRESS INVITED TO ATTEND PRESS BRIEFING WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15 AT 3:30PM TO RECEIVE THE RECOMMENDATIONS OUTLINED IN THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT AUDIT

San Mateo, CA (January 13, 2014)… The City of San Mateo invites the members of the media to a press briefing taking place on Wednesday, January 15th to discuss the recommendations outlined in the Management Audit of the Community Development Department (CDD) conducted by Zucker Systems.   The press briefing will take place in Conference Room C at San Mateo City Hall located at 330 West 20th Avenue at 3:30pm.  

Zucker Systems completed and submitted the management audit following the direction of San Mateo City Council to evaluate and identify areas of improvement within the City’s Community Development Department.  The final report includes 224 prioritized recommendations to improve customer service within Community Development and addresses staffing levels, processes pertaining to public noticing as well as the application and approval process for development and building projects. 

The audit was conducted over a four month period beginning in September 2013.  Zucker Systems was selected by the City Council in August due to the firm’s experience in conducting similar audits throughout the country.  Interviews of CDD staff members as well as the Planning Commission, developers, members of the public, and City Council were conducted as part of the process.  The recommendations reflect current practices in Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement and focus on improvements to customer service.
 
“Zucker Systems has provided a comprehensive review of the Community Development Department,” says Interim City Manager, Larry Patterson.  “Mr. Zucker has provided a wide range of recommendations and the City is focused on beginning the implementation process.  They will ultimately improve the level of service provided to customers and the San Mateo community.  The City organization values constant improvement and is committed to providing the best customer service to our community.  Implementing the Zucker Systems' recommendations is consistent with these core principles.”

The press conference will begin promptly at 3:30pm.  The building will be open to the media at 3:00pm.  Parking will be reserved for press in the front lot of City Hall.  Parking can be accessed from O’Farrell Street.  The media should look for the press signage upon arrival.
