Happy Holidays from the City of San Mateo

A Holiday Greeting to the San Mateo Community

San Mateo, CA (December 23, 2013)… It’s a festive time of year in our community – celebrated with tree lightings, Santa’s arrival, a snow queen, and cultural events from around the world.  To recognize the many ways our community celebrates this joyous time of year, the City of San Mateo partnered with Peninsula Television and Cameron Washington of Russian Hill Projects to create a holiday video showcasing the numerous holiday events taking place in San Mateo throughout the holiday season.

San Mateo residents subscribed to the City’s listserve or social media accounts should watch their inboxes on Christmas Eve for a special holiday greeting from the City of San Mateo.  The video is also available on the City’s website and will air on Peninsula Television during the second half of San Mateo County Today, which airs daily at 11:30 AM and 5:30 PM.  The video will run twice a day from Tuesday, December 24th through Tuesday, December 31st.   San Mateo viewers can tune in on Comcast Channel 26, Astound Channel 27, or U-verse Channel 99.

The video is a holiday greeting for all of San Mateo to enjoy!  City officials wanted to thank the San Mateo community for its ongoing support and to feature the many ways our community comes together to celebrate the splendor of the holiday season.
“The holiday spirit is alive and well in San Mateo,” says San Mateo Mayor, Robert Ross. “The video provides an opportunity to wish all of San Mateo a happy holiday season!”
San Mateo is rich in holiday tradition and festivity - the video features the 41st Annual Holiday Festival of Dance, presented by the San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department and San Mateo Dance Association, as well as more recent events such as Santa Cop, sponsored by the San Mateo Police Activities League and the San Mateo Police Department, which helps families in need throughout the community.  The San Mateo Library produced a series of cultural events informing kids of all ages of holiday traditions from around the world.  The San Mateo Fire Department, Parks and Recreation Department, Downtown San Mateo Association, and Hillsdale Shopping Center welcomed the arrival of that “jolly old elf” with festive tree lightings and Santa breakfasts.  Finally, Recology of San Mateo County partnered with Hillsdale Shopping Center to create the ultimate upcycled tree, made of reclaimed and recycled materials.  Recology’s Zero Waste Tree is on display at Hillsdale Shopping Center.

Tune in to Peninsula Television or visit the City's website to enjoy the many ways our community celebrates the holidays. It’s a wonderful time of year in San Mateo, and from all of us at the City of San Mateo, we wish you and your loved ones a wonderful holiday and a safe and healthy New Year.
