Spotlight on Service: Youth Activities Council (YAC)
Volunteers on the Youth Activities Council
“YAC is a great way for high school students to play a part in their community. I have a say to what I want to do/have around my community and it’s really fun! It's also a great way to learn leadership skills and meet new people” says Tiffany of Aragon High School.
Students from Aragon, Hillsdale, San Mateo and Junipero Serra high schools apply for a dozen positions on the City of San Mateo Youth Activities Council (YAC).
Council members represent the voice of San Mateo’s teens as they provide insight into youth interests and concerns; volunteer in and around our community at events such as Eggstravaganza, The Senior Health and Wellness Fair, Brunch with Santa and Rebuild Together Peninsula; and, help raise money for non-profit organizations.
YAC runs for a school year, from late August through May. Last year, YAC members contributed about 400 hours of volunteer time.
Thank you, YAC student volunteers for your energy and commitment to the San Mateo community.
