Make a difference for our coast and ocean by taking the Coastal Stewardship Pledge
. The Pledge is an online program that encourages Californians to make a commitment to taking specific personal actions to protect our coast and ocean. The goal is to encourage you, your family and your neighbors to consider the health of the coastal environment in all your choices throughout the day. Once you have followed through on your commitment, you
will receive a certificate of participation and a canvas tote bag. You can go directly to your Pledge Form
to show your support for our coastal environment.
NEW! March Ecoplate Drawing –
The California Coastal Commission (CCC) just launched a new Whale Tail License Plate. To celebrate this new ecoplate, there will be monthly prize drawings
! Enter for a chance to win the CCC’s latest volume of coastal guides Experience the California Coast: Beaches and Parks from San Francisco to Monterey,
or a pair of tickets to either the Aquarium of the Pacific (Long Beach) or the Aquarium of the Bay (San Francisco). The next drawing will be held on April 2, 2012.
Recology San Mateo County

This will be the new residential and commercial garbage collection services effective January 1, 2011. All properties in San Mateo must have garbage service. There will be three carts (Green, Blue, and Black) provided to each household to separate your compost, recycling, and waste respectively. Exact Rates [link to Rates section] are still to be determined.
(South Bayside Waste Management Authority SBWMA)
South Bay Waste Management Authority (SBWMA) consists of twelve member agencies including the City of San Mateo. The primary goal is to provide cost-effective waste reduction, recycling, and solid waste programs to its member agencies through the franchise hauler Recology.
NEW FROM RETHINK WASTE: AB 341 - Mandatory Commercial Recycling
The new California Assembly Bill (AB) 341 requires all businesses that generate four (4) or more cubic yards of garbage per week and multi-family dwellings with five (5) or more units to recycle by July 1, 2012. Learn more about AB 341.
