From undertaking major projects aimed at minimizing flood risk in San Mateo, to making sandbags available to residents during the rainy season, flood protection and preparation is an ongoing priority for the Department of Public Works.  

There are a number of capital improvements needed to provide a level of flood protection consistent with the policies of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  The Public Works Department continues to serve as the lead in accomplishing these projects, working towards ultimately eliminating flood risk in San Mateo.
