South Bayfront Levee Improvements Survey
Did you receive the Fact Sheet and Survey for the South Bayfront Levee Improvements?
The City, through SCI Consulting Group, a firm specializing in assessment district formation, sent surveys to approximately 7,000 property owners within the special flood hazard areas south of San Mateo Creek on November 10, 2008.
What is the purpose of the survey?
The purpose of the survey is to gauge support from the community regarding the formation of an assessment district to fund levee improvements south of San Mateo Creek.
What improvements are being considered?
These improvements, once completed, will protect all of the properties in the flood zone south of San Mateo Creek from the risk of tidal flooding. Approximately 5,000 properties in locations not subject to stormwater flooding will no longer require the mandatory flood insurance. The remaining 2,000 properties in the special flood hazard areas continue to be subject to stormwater flooding, as well as mandatory flood insurance requirements, due to inadequate interior drainage facilities.
When will survey results be available?
The City anticipates survey results by the end of the year. At that time an evaluation of the findings will be determined.
