When San Mateo resident Ken Mahar left for a Kenyan photography safari in mid-February, he hoped to return home with some incredible shots of zebras and lions, and maybe a souvenir or two. But he also returned to the Bay Area with new eyes for the comforts of his life, thanks in part to a private meeting with President Barack Obama's paternal grandmother in his ancestral home of Kogelo, Kenya, on the shores of Lake Victoria.
