Fine Arts & Crafts Programs

With almost a dozen different classes, we’re sure to have something that sparks your imagination. For detailed information on any of our Fine Arts & Crafts classes, see our Activity Guide.

We have a variety of different ceramics classes from basic pottery wheel classes to our popular “coffee and clay” classes. Each class is designed for specific skill sets and styles of ceramics. Learn to throw, hand build and fire your art. Working with clay is a great stress reliever with the added benefit of having something beautiful that you created to show for it! Also, in June and December of each year, students showcase their works of art in our Ceramic Show and Sale held at the Ceramics Studio in Central Park.

Basic Jewelry Making
Ever seen someone wearing a beautiful necklace and when you commented on it, she said, “I made it!” You can say that too with this class where you’ll learn the basics of jewelry making and will create your own designs.

Knitting with Ease
Knitting is no longer your grandmother’s hobby. It’s a popular and fun way to be creative and once you learn the basic, the possibilities are endless. With a little practice, you can knit everything from sweaters to afghans. Our class teaches the basics for newcomers, but can also work with more advanced students looking for help on specific projects.

Learn how to create hand stamped cards and more with these classes. You can make really unique gifts that will impress your friends and family.

Introduction to Drawing and Painting
Find your inner artist. This class is a wonderful way to let your creativity flow and it’s designed to give you simple step-by-step methods for the basics of drawing and painting from drawing still life to water color wash techniques.

Oil Painting
Learn how to paint like the masters! This class teaches basic techniques for oil painting including traditional and modern techniques as well as basics like mixing colors, scumbling and glazing.

Chinese Brush Painting
Chinese brush painting isn’t just about finding your creative spirit – it’s about balancing the “chi” and expressing your feelings. This ancient art is a beautiful way to free your imagination and focus your energy.

Contemporary Ikebana Flower Arranging
Learn basic flower arranging techniques for entering the creative world of Sogetsu Ikebana. Students will make unique arrangements using flowers and branches they bring from home or purchase from the instructor. Class will consist of demonstrations and individual assistance from the instructor.

Digital Photography
Are you making full use of your digital camera? With more options than ever, digital cameras are powerful tools - learn how to use your camera properly, along with basic photographic concepts. Includes a one hour private printing workshop.

Intro to Glass Beading
Make flame-worked glass beads on a torch in one day! After covering the basics of working with flame and glass safely, you'll be making your own creations.

Intro to Stained Glass
You see them everywhere, beautiful stained glass art pieces. Students will learn the basics of stained glass work; how to cut, grind and fit stained glass pieces and then assemble and solder everything together. At the end, voila! an art piece ready for display.

Beginning Crochet
It’s amazing what can be created with just a hook and a ball of yarn. Once you’ve learned the basic stitches of crochet, you will be able to create and infinite assortment of beautiful items such as accessories, garments, baskets or home décor. Crochet is a craft, an art and a great way to express your creative side.
