Annual Work Plan
The annual management program and work plan for Marina Lagoon is organized around the San Mateo Countywide Water Pollution Prevention Program (SMCWPPP) Performance Standards for Lagoon Management. In addition to implementing the performance standards, issues specific to Marina Lagoon are added to the list of tasks on an ongoing basis. Routine tasks are outlined in the performance standards and are summarized as follows:
  • Protect all beneficial uses of the lagoon, including habitat for fish and waterfowl, water contact recreation, aesthetics, and flood control
  • Manage in-water and shoreline construction activities
  • Monitor and protect lagoon water quality
  • Employ integrated pest management techniques for control of weeds and algae
  • Follow all applicable law and regulations with respect to use of aquatic herbicides
  • Control litter and debris
  • Train staff involved in lagoon management and share information with managers of neighboring lagoons
  • Educate the public about water pollution prevention

Specific ongoing tasks include the following:

  • Award lagoon maintenance services contract for aquatic plant and debris control
  • Comply with State Water Board’s Permit for Discharges of Aquatic Pesticides
