Meet Donia Bijan Author of "Maman's Homesick Pie"
Sunday, May 20
Meet Donia Bijan author of "Maman's Homesick Pie: A Persian Heart in an American Kitchen." "Maman's Homesick Pie" is an eloquent, heartfelt memoir, interspersed with thirty inspirational recipes taken from Bijan's experiences. Donia's love for her mother and her home, as well as for adventure and the power of good food, sings from every page.
Donia Bijan graduated from UC Berkeley and the Cordon Bleu. After presiding over many of San Francisco's acclaimed restaurants and earning awards for her French-inspired cuisine, she ran her own restaurant, L'Amie Donia, in Palo Alto for ten years.
Publisher's Weekly described her book as "a wonderful memoir...so well rendered...Bijan writes movingly of her parents' accomplishments, their difficulty adjusting to their new home, and her own burgeoning love of food and cooking...Like the perfect dessert, each chapter ends with recipes."
This program is coordinated by the Iranian-American Library Advisory Committee.
